Manifest Destination

My methods of appropriation began with my “Manifest Destination” exhibition, which looked specifically to the idyllic vistas depicted by the Hudson River School painters, such as Albert Bierstadt and Asher Brown Durand. I recreated/appropriated paintings and imagery from this school, which conveyed an idealized sense of the West, in order to speak to the transformations in the West’s physical and social environments over the last century. After moving to this region, I have seen firsthand the shrinking vistas and challenges that come with growth.
